ER Technician Float - Emergency Department
Job Summary: Employee assists with patient care based on individual needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or ER Physician. Performs a variety of clerical, and indirect patient care duties and activities.

II. Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education
1. High school graduate or equivalent.

B. Experience
Level I No previous experience required. Prefer one (1) year previous experience in acute hospital setting or ambulance.
Level II Minimum of two (2) years med/surg experience, and or three (3) years experience as ER Tech in JCF Emergency Department.
Level III Minimum of five (5) years experience as ER Tech in any Emergency
Department

C. Licensure / Certifications / Registrations
Level I 1. Current valid California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Certification, OR Certified Nursing Aide Certification (CNA)
2. Cardiac Monitor Technician certification (required within 6-months of
hire).
3. Valid Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification.
Level II 1. Same as level I
2. Advanced ECG course approved by ED manager, CNO, Education, (example: AHA STEMI Course)

Level III 1. Same as level II
2. EMT, C.N.A., and CMT
3. Completion/certification Advanced Stroke Life Support Certification
4. Assigned inter-departmental project officer (CLIA staff competency officer, IP/Safety officer, CNA/EMT training program liaison, etc.)
5. JCFHD American Heart Association Instructor status

D. Essential Skills
1. Understanding of basic medical terminology.
2. Ability to understand and perform routine emergency treatment tasks and procedures.
3. Ability to accurately perform vital signs assessment on patients of all ages.
4. Ability to understand and carry out written, oral, and/or graphic instructions.
5. Ability to accurately perform basic math, including addition, subtraction multiplication, and division.
6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedure or government regulations.
7. Ability to speak effectively on a one on one and small group situation to patients, visitors, and other employees; and to convey health education to individuals as directed by the emergency department provider.
8. Ability to comply with procedures for infection control and asepsis.
9. Knowledge of emergency room equipment, supplies, and instruments; and the ability to properly use them.
10. Ability to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner.
11. Understanding of and ability to use proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self.
12. Ability to document accurate patient records.
13. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of your duties.
14. Operate office equipment, i.e. computer, printer, fax, copier, etc..
