Position Summary

As a Medical Assistant I, you will provide direct clinical and operational support to patients and licensed staff in the District’s Rural Health Clinics. Working under general supervision, you will assist with basic patient care services, including interviewing patients, preparing exam rooms, documenting visits, performing approved laboratory and screening tests, and preparing specimens for transport.

In addition, you will support day-to-day clinic operations by assisting with patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and maintaining accurate patient records. This role plays a key part in supporting patient flow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience while ensuring compliance with clinic policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

· Interview patients, document information, and perform pre-exam functions.

· Prepare exam rooms, assist with patient care during visits, and support discharge.

· Perform approved laboratory and screening tests, and prepare specimens for transport.

· Obtain required patient authorization signatures and consents.

· Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification.

· Support billing processes, including claims submission, prior authorizations, and tracking approvals.

· Greet and direct patients and visitors, and assist with phone calls and routing.

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient charts and clinic records.

· Ensure compliance with infection control, quality assurance, and confidentiality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

· Current valid Medical Assistant certification.
-Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant training program that includes both classroom instruction and supervised clinical practice from an accredited or state-approved school recognized by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education or the U.S. Department of Education

· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / Healthcare Provider certification.

· Previous clinic or ambulatory care experience preferred.
