Admitting Clerk-ER Nights Min Part Time/On Call (Per Diem) - Admitting
I. Job Summary: Admitting Clerk ED NOCS
Performs a variety of specialized clerical duties relating to the pre-admitting and admitting of patients from out-patient departments, as well as direct Acute admits. Duties include telephone operator, answering and relaying incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls. Speaks and makes announcements on overhead speakers. Professionally greets patients and visitors, determines their needs and directs them to the appropriate area or person. Patient admitting includes data entry of patient information, verification of information and insurance coverage. Other duties include but are not limited to payment collection, scheduling patients for procedures, and other projects and duties as assigned.
II. Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education
1. High school graduate or equivalent, with course work in typing and general business.
B. Experience
1. Two years of clerical work experience, preferably in an insurance or medical field.
C. Licensure / Certifications / Registrations
1. None
D. Essential Skills
1. Ability to operate, with accuracy, modern office equipment, including computer terminal.
2. Accurately type 30 words per minute.
3. Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and hospital staff members, exercising high degree of tact.
4. Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, and oral form.
5. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
6. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
7. Ability to maintain files and records.
8. Knowledge of office organization, basics of insurance billing, and medical terminology.
