Medical Assistant - CLINICS
I.Job Summary:

Employee provides various basic patient care services to ambulatory patients in the clinic setting and assists licensed staff in various medical support duties.

II. Minimum Qualifications:

A. Education
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Successful completion Medical Assistant training.

B. Experience

Level I Entry level. New graduate, or less than one (1) year med/surg experience, or less than six (6) months clinic experience.

Level II Minimum of one (1) year med/surg experience or more than six (6) months clinic experience.


C. Licensure / Certifications / Registrations

1. Current valid Medical Assistant certification
2. Valid Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification.

D. Essential Skills

1. Understanding of basic medical terminology.

2. Ability to understand and perform routine clinic tasks and procedures.

3. Obtain accurate vital signs and correctly record them.

4. Ability to understand and carry out written, oral, and/or graphic instructions.

5. Ability to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

6. Ability to read and interpret documents at a high school graduate level of competency.

7. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

8. Ability to speak effectively on a one on one and small group situation to patients, visitors, and other employees; and to convey health education to individuals as directed by a clinic provider.

9. Ability to comply with procedures for infection control and asepsis.

10. Knowledge of clinic equipment, supplies, and instruments; and the ability to properly use them.

11. Ability to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner.

12. Understanding of and ability to use proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self.

13. Ability to keep and document accurate patient records.

14. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of your duties.

V. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Accurately interviews patient, performs pre-exam functions, documents information obtained in the patient’s chart, and prepares room for required procedures.

2. Effectively observes and cares for patient during the office stay and with discharge.

3. Proficiently and accurately performs specific laboratory and other screening tests, treatments, and properly prepares some laboratory specimens for transportation to laboratory.

4. Proficiently and accurately documents in chart information involving patient care, and inquires and obtains authorization signatures, as required by law, prior to procedures or treatments.

5. Accurately maintains quality control logs, and proficiently performs other duties to assure clinic runs at optimum operation.

6. Demonstrates effective delegation, coordination of workload.

7. Complies with Infection Control policies.

8. Complies with Quality Assurance and Confidentiality standards and policies.

9. Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships and enhance the District’s image.
